Golfers' marathon challenge
Golfers from Vale Royal Abbey raised money for charity with a 12-hour golf marathon
Four intrepid golfers from Vale Royal Abbey undertook a huge challenge on Sunday June 8, raising more than £1,200 for charity.
Led by Club Captain, Keith Hadaway and Lady Captain, Sue Goddard, the golfers went on a 12-hour golf marathon playing non-stop from 8am until 8pm.
Aided by an army of volunteers, the heroic team, which also included club members Peter Goddard and Chris Orchard, endured three rounds of the course, successfully completing 54 holes and walking over eleven-and-a-half miles.
Long after the limbs have stopped aching and the knees hurting, the satisfaction you get by giving to two such worthy causes will live with me for a very long time it was an absolute pleasure, explained Keith Hadaway.
The money raised will be split between Winsford-based charities Hebden Green Special School and The Neuro Muscular Centre (NMC), which are the Captains chosen charities during their captaincy.
Sue Goddard, who completed all three rounds without losing a single ball, added: We couldn t have asked for a better day. The course was in stunning condition, the weather was fantastic and the support from everyone was brilliant. A big thank you must go to all those who volunteered and sponsored us, because without them we wouldn t have been able to raise such a wonderful amount.
