The Championship is a team event open to all golfers with a handicap certificate. Teams are made up of three golfers and is open to male and female golfers. The event is a Stableford and played off full handicap. Qualifying rounds will be held throughout Wales in March and April with the Final being held at Builth Wells Golf Club in July.

Andrew Jones from Shelter Cymru said "There has been an enormous progression in Junior Golf in Wales and I am sure this will continue in the build up to and as a legacy of the Ryder Cup. This event is aimed at the developing golfer who has yet to progress to team golf. They will be the teams players of the future so by making this a Stableford off full handicap this will give them a slight advantage. We of course welcome entries from all players but the single figure golfers know that they will have plenty of competitive golf ahead.

This is also a fantastic opportunity to raise awareness of Shelter Cymru. With the recent economic downturn the number of people losing their homes has featured prominently on the news so this is an excellent opportunity to increase our profile."

Entries are invited from either schools or clubs and full details will be mailed to all schools and clubs in January. Entry into the event is free but players will be invited to raise sponsorship for Shelter Cymru.

Shelter Cymru is Wales' people and homes charity. Shelter Cymru's vision is that everyone in Wales should have a decent home.

Shelter Cymru helps a wide cross section of people with a range of housing and related problems. We offer free, confidential and independent legal advice at 68 community-based centres throughout Wales. Last year we dealt with over 18,000 housing problems and prevented homelessness in 86% of the cases where it was faced.

Shelter Cymru also seeks to influence policies and legislation so that homelessness and housing need are eradicated in Wales.

The event is endorsed by Wales' leading golfer Bradley Dredge. Mr Dredge said "This is you chance to play some excellent course and support Wales' leading housing charity."

Prizes for the event are kindly being supplied by Taylor Made. Prizes will be available for the top teams in each of the qualifying rounds as well as prizes at the Final.

Hannah James from Golf Development Wales said "We are pleased to support this event as it will play a part in a comprehensive programme to make golf a game for life."
