Tullamore D.E.W. Irish whiskey is offering a £5,000 reward for the most amusing and creative banner on show at a various sporting events this summer.

To win the prize, entrants have to share photographs of their banners on Twitter using the hashtag #bannerbanter.

The competition aims to inspire a new wave of banner writers and celebrate the intelligence and good humour on offer at British sporting events.

"The act of creating the banners is naturally a very social occasion," said Loughborough University's Dr. James Cleland.

"Getting together with a group of friends to create witty banners for display at sporting events allows supporters to express a mischievous edge to their character and have a shared experience that bonds them with others in their social group."

Many entires have already been received, including 'Goodbye Manish and Hello Gary'; a tribute to Cardiff City's promotion to the Premier League and future appearances on Match of the Day.

With the Open Championship just around the corner, now is the perfect time to create a witty banter and give yourself the chance of winning £5,000.

To be in with a chance of winning, simply submit a photograph of your banner on Twitter, using #bannerbanter, before August 1.
