Bob Hope Chrysler Classic Preview

Celebrities and professionals turn out in full force this week as the PGA Tour heads inland to California.

TOURNAMENT: Bob Hope Chrysler Classic

HOST COURSE: PGA West (Palmer Course), Bermuda Dunes CC, La Quinta CC, The Classic Club

PRIZE FUND: $5 million WINNER: $900,000

COURSE DETAILS: In order to accommodate both the professionals and celebrities, this week's Chrysler Classic is played on four courses, two of which are Arnold Palmer designs. Set at the foot of the Santa Rosa Mountains this is a golfer's paradise where the scenery and weather complement the immaculate courses. As each course has to be set up to suit the amateurs, scoring is traditionally very low.

Although there will be plenty of celebrities to entertain the crowds, all eyes will be on Phil Mickelson who will compete for the first time since the Ryder Cup last September. Although he won the Masters last year, there were many that questioned his form after his US Open troubles and a poor performance in the match against the Europeans. It will be interesting to see how he performs on his return.

Chad Campbell won the event last year by three shots and returns to defend his title. He is joined by Englishmen Justin Rose, Ian Poulter and Greg Owen. More attention than usual will be directed towards Paul Goydos after his shock victory last week in Hawaii. Bernhard Langer makes a rare appearance on the US Tour after gaining a sponsor's invite as he prepares for the seniors circuit.

CONTENDERS: Phil Mickelson, Justin Rose and Mike Weir.
