Englishman Gordon J. Brand came from way back to win the Arcapita Senior Tour Championship in Riffa Views, Bahrain, beating Argentine Adan Sowa in a sudden death play-off.

Brand, who had started the day five shots offf the pace, secured the £42,365 first prize on the pair’s third visit to the 18th hole. He fired a final round six-under 66 to tie with Sowa, the joint overnight leader who closed with a 71. The penultimate two play-off holes ended courtesy of two brilliant putts. Sowa holed a wonderful 25-footer snaking across the green for a five, while Brand responded impressively with an uphill effort at the next to halve in four.

At the final play-off hole, Sowa hooked his ball into the water from the tee and then failed to make the green on his third attempt, gifting Brand a chance to wrap it all up. He did, hitting a majestic wedge on to the green before comfortably holing out from two and a half feet for a winning birdie. It was Brand’s second title of the season on the final day of the 2006 European Seniors Tour.

?To be honest I wasn?t thinking about winning today as there was so many good players in front of me? Brand said modestly shortly before accepting the trophy.

Defending champion Des Smyth had a disappointing end to the season finishing 7th after a closing round of 73.

Argentine Runner-Up Adan Sowa remains positive about his performance, which earned him his full card for 2007, insisting it was his best week on tour.

Third place went to another Argentine, Luis Carbonetti who closed with a round of 69 to finish on four under par 212.
