Golf professional Paul Simpson is offering the chance to be his caddie in one of the world’s biggest tournaments - the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth – by auctioning the role for charity.

The winner of the auction will carry the 38-year-old’s bag for two practice rounds and the first 36 holes proper at Wentworth on May 21-24.

The winning bidder will also get a free playing round over Wentworth’s West Course three weeks before the event and, if he or she wishes, their company’s name on Simpson’s bag during the event.

Half of the money Simpson receives from the eBay auction will go to the special baby care unit at Oxford’s John Radcliffe Hospital, with the other half going towards his playing expenses for the season.        The Oxfordshire pro, who earned his place at Wentworth by winning the English PGA Championship at Moortown last summer, said: “I have given money to the special baby care unit from previous charity events that I have organised. They do great work and the money doesn’t go on administration — it all goes on making a difference.”

Simpson, who is the professional at West Berks Golf Club, has also pledged to donate 25 per cent of any winnings to the Berkshire Community Foundation, a charity that supports small community groups.
