The European Tour has announced that the 2011 Barclays Scottish Open will be played at Castle Stuart Golf Links.

After nine successful years at Loch Lomond Golf Club, the competition will head further north and will bring a welcome boost for the economy around the Highlands.

Castle Stuart will welcome the best players from the European Tour on July 7-10 and will provide golf fans in the region an exciting opportunity to witness a wonderful display of golfing talent on their doorstep.

Paul Bush OBE, chief operating officer for EventScotland, said: “EventScotland has worked closely with the European Tour throughout the venue decision for the Barclays Scottish Open next year and we are pleased that a first class venue has been identified.

“We are committed to continuing our support of the ‘Home of Golf’s’ major events in the years ahead as we build toward the 2014 Ryder Cup. They continue to provide significant impact on the economy both locally and nationally and this new venue will add to the positive results.”

EventScotland continues to invest in golf across the country and it can boast a portfolio of golf events for next year that includes the RICOH Women’s British Open, the Scottish Hydro Challenge, Scottish Senior Open and the Ladies Scottish Open.

Following Edoardo Molinari’s victory last year, after playing alongside his brother Francesco and Darren Clarke on the final day, everyone involved will be eagerly awaiting the return of the Italian champion and a host of others that will descend upon Castle Stuart keen to tackle the new course and get their hands on the trophy.
