Welcome to? this attractive venue, boasting a modern, testing golf course and state-of-the-art clubhouse just a few minutes from Guildford in Surrey.

Course lowdown: This is a tough challenge for all but the lowest handicappers. Long, links-style wispy rough punishes wayward hitters and several impressive water hazards add to the enjoyment. The signature hole is the short par 4 12th, which is protected by a lake down the right and in front of the green. The sensible play is a longish iron followed by a pitch onto the putting surface. The course?s main protection is its length ? the layout measures almost 7,000 yards from the back tees. A silver medal winner in Golf Monthly?s 2007 HSBC Regional Course Rankings, Merrist Wood is the perfect venue for societies and corporate days out, boasting excellent practice facilities including a driving range and two short-game areas.

A plaque can be found between the 14th and 15th fairways and poppies are laid here each Amistice Day.
