As the final counting event for players to qualify for the Ryder Cup in September both Clarke and Howell will be looking to impress captain Nick Faldo, before he announces the team at the end of the tournament, including his highly anticipated Wildcard selections.

Both Darren and David are now in the top 50 in the European Tour Order of Merit. Howell finished in 7th place at this year’s Open Championship in the challenging weather conditions at Royal Birkdale, whereas Clarke won the BMW Asian Open. Both players will be looking to build on these solid performances at Gleneagles this year.

Graeme Marchbank, Championship Director, said: ‘I am delighted that we have a further two Ryder Cup players joining us at this year’s event. As the final tournament before the team is selected, the Johnnie Walker Championship will undoubtedly be an exciting and fascinating week for the Scottish golfing public.’

‘We’re delighted that already so many well-known names have confirmed, including established Ryder Cup players such as these. Along with the challenging nature of The PGA Centenary Course, they will certainly help to give the spectators exciting golf to watch as they continue their own quest for selection.’

The prize fund for the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles is £1.4m and it will be played over The PGA Centenary Course from August 28-31.
