Darren Clarke has parted company with his caddie John Mulrooney justsix months after the duo won the Open together.

Clarke has struggled for form since winning at Royal St Georges in July and missed the cut in the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship after a round of 81 on Friday.

Mulrooney became Clarke’s full-time caddie after the duo won in their first event together at the Iberdrola Open in May.

The paired found themselves together by chance after Mulrooney was left without a player for the tournament due to David Howell’s withdrawal, while Clarke was without a bagman after his regular caddie was with Ernie Els in the US.

Clarke and Mulrooney were rumoured to have had a few bust-ups in their short time together, the first of which came just one week before the Open during the final round of the Scottish Open according to The Irish Independant.

ISM, Clarke’s management team, have stated the split was amicable.
