David Lynn wins Portugal Masters

David Lynn shot a final-round 63 to claim a one-shot victory in the Portugal Masters at the Oceanico Victoria Golf Club on the Algarve.

The Englishman - without a European Tour win since the 2004 KLM Open - started the day six shots off the lead, but reached the turn in five-under-par 30.

He bogied the 10th, but four more birdies coming home - including a tap-in four after a sublime approach to the par-5 17th - saw him reach the clubhouse on 18-under-par.

With a raft of top players still on the course, a play-off looked the likely outcome.

But Scott Jamieson and overnight leader Paul Waring fell away, and both Pablo Larrazabal and Bernd Wiesberger made bogeys after finding water on the par-5 17th, putting paid to their chances of victory.

"It's your dream to win," said Lynn. "That's what we're out here for. It's a great feeling to know I can do it again."

The highlight of a slightly anticlimactic final round was undeniably Justin Walter's par putt on the 18th green.

The South African - who started the weekend outside the all-important top 110 in the Race to Dubai - holed a 45-footer to claim outright second, ran around the green in celebration and subsequently burst into tears. His mother had sadly passed away two weeks previously.

"She made it for sure," he said. "I am super proud and so happy I could honour my mum."

Scotland's Stephen Gallacher, Waring and Wiesberger finished in a tie for third place.
