Jason Day and Cameron Tringale fired a final round of 65 to win the Franklin Templeton Shootout by a single shot from defending champions Harris English and Matt Kuchar.

Day and Tringale opened with a sensational round of 55 in the scramble format and they extended their advantage with a fine 64 in the modified alternate-shot second round.

But in the final round, playing better-ball, Day and Tringale mustered just one birdie in their first eight holes. That allowed the chasing pack back into the tournament and, for a time on Saturday, the event was wide open. But Day and Tringale regained control with five birdies in a row from the 9th to the 13th.

Day and Tringale, the youngest team in the event, managed to hold on down the stretch to win by a single shot from English and Kuchar. The defending champions fired a closing 62.

Tied in third place were Keegan Bradley with Camilo Villegas and Ian Poulter with Billy Horschel.
