Fortrose & Rosemarkie is GM's Course of the Week
Perched atop the firth just below Inverness, this is a stunning setting for a golf course. With the wind howling, the sea frothing and the greeens racing, Fortrose should be on your list to visit.
Welcome to Fortrose & Rosemarkie Golf Club
Lack of space here means Fortrose is not a long course, under 6,000 yards in fact, but it?s no pushover with gorse, bunkering, small greens and the ever-present wind. The course is surrounded by breathtaking scenery, with a dolphin colony in the adjacent firth.
Course lowdown: The course is well presented with relatively small greens, ample gorse and very well-placed bunkers. The toughest hole, the 4th, lighthouse, a 455-yard par 5 doesn?t seem too tricky on the card but the fairway is split by a gully some 245 yards off the tee. Lay up and you?ll have a shot of 225 yards to a hugely undulating green.
Stats: par 71, SSS 69, 5,890 yards
Green fees: wd £16 round, £27.50 day, we £21 round, £32.50 day (winter) £34 round, £50 day, we £40 round, £50 day (summer)
History: Founded in 1888 and had a membership of over 50 within months. James Braid was employed to lay out 18 holes and that he managed this within the narrow Chanonry peninsula was a huge achievement.
Location: Ness Road East, Fortrose, Scotland IV10 8SE
