American youngster Colt Knost, who finished first in the R&A?s World Amateur Golf Ranking in 2007 was the recipient of the inaugural McCormack Medal in a ceremony held at his home club in Dallas, Texas.
?I am delighted to be the first winner of this award, and to receive it at my home club is something special,? said Knost, ?This is the perfect way to sign off my amateur career.?
This season Knost capped a remarkable amateur career by becoming only the second golfer in history to capture the U.S. Amateur Championship and U.S Public Links Championship in the same year.
He also was a member of this year?s American Walker Cup team that recorded a thrilling one-point victory over their Great Britain & Ireland counterparts at Royal Country Down.
A graduate of Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Knost will begin his professional career in 2008 after winning his PGA Tour card for the year as a result of his victory at the U.S Amateur.
The McCormack Medal, which is named after late International Management Group (IMG) founder Mark McCormack, will henceforth be presented annually by the R&A to the year?s premier amateur golfer in the World Amateur Ranking.
