Wilson Staff player José Manuel Lara put his FG Tour irons and Dxi hybrid (19°) to good effect to win the Austrian Open that helped secure his European Tour card for another year.
The 33-year-old won the first play-off of his career against England’s David Lynn with a par on the 18th, having made the best score of the day with an eight-under par 64 to finish 17-under for the tournament.
Lara had gone into the event in grave danger of having to go back to Qualifying School with a Race to Dubai ranking of 130th.
However, a recent return to form saw him finish fourth at the KLM Open and he came from eighth position overnight in Austria to fire ten birdies and take victory from a field including Ryder Cup stars Graeme McDowell and Miguel Angel Jiménez.
“Now I would like to climb into the top 60 and make the Dubai World Championship at the end of the year,” said Lara, who first signed with Wilson in 2003 and re-signed four years later after winning the UBS Hong Kong Open.
