American Matt Kuchar shot a final round 70 at TPC Sawgrass to win The Players Championship.

Kuchar started the final round a shot behind leader Kevin Na, but while Kuchar’s golf was solid, except for a bogey on the opening hole, Na had several problems on the course.

Na battled with his swing throughout the day, taking a huge amount of practice swings before being able to settle over the ball. He also struggled with his putting and finished with six bogeys in his 76.

Big movers on the final day were Luke Donald who shot a 66 to finish in 6th place and Martin Laird who had a putt on the 18th to stay at 12 under but let it slip by.

Laird’s bogey on 18 as well as a miss from Rickie Fowler from 10 feet for birdie meant that Kuchar was able to go up the 18th with a two-shot cushion.

He expertly two putted having found the green in regulation and was soon congratulated by his children who ran onto the green to celebrate with him.

“It’s an amazing feeling to beat the field at The Players Championship. You think of this as one of the strongest fields in golf, and to come out as a champion is truly an amazing, amazing feeling.”
