There is a new and exciting tournament this week on the European Tour with the Saltire Energy Paul Lawrie Match Play, which is being played at Murcar Links Golf Club in Aberdeen.

Take a look at Paul Lawrie's swing sequence below

First thing to of course mention is that it is a matchplay event, which for many people will find the whole event very appealing to watch.

Also there are no groups, or second chances, it is straight knockout, 64 players 32 matches. If you win you go into the next round, if you lose you are knocked out.

The event, although not having the cream of the European Tour players, does have some big names from the world of golf with the likes of Chris Wood, Richie Ramsay, Alexander Levy, Robert Karlsson and David Howell all teeing it up.

Favourite for the event is Chris Wood at 16/1 while David Howell (18/1) and Marc Warren (18/1) are also well fancied.

Saltire Energy Paul Lawrie Match Play golf betting tips advised bets

As ever with a matchplay tournament like this the tactic is to pick a person from each quarter and so two of your picks cannot meet until the semi final stage where the each way betting gets paid.

Alexander Levy £1.50 each way at 30/1 with Bet365 The Frenchman is having a solid year and has some decent looking form comig into the event. Finished top 25 at the Scottish Open so knows his way around a links course. I also feel he is in the weakest quarter of the draw and could find himself in the final four

Raphael Jacquelin £1.50 Each way at 25/1 with Betway If he can squeeze past Gregor Havret in the second round he should make the semi finals. Finished 2nd in the Scottish Open and finished 7th last week in the European Masters so in excellent form.

Peter Uihlein £1.50 each way at 30/1 with Coral The American is not having a stellar season, but should come through his side of the draw. Will have played plenty of matchplay golf in his time, and could be one to get to the later stages.

Scott Hend £0.50 each way at 80/1 The Aussie is big odds, should breeze through the first two rounds, but may have to see off Chris Wood in round 3 – my outsider for this week for a reason, but one that does have a path to success.
