Premium irons guide: Including Nike VR, Ping S57 and more

A review of some of the premium irons on the golf market, including Nike VR Split Cavity, Ping S57, Callaway X22, Mizuno MP 52, TaylorMade Tour Preferred and Titleist AP2.

Nike VR Split Cavity irons

This week’s equipment guide takes a brief look at those irons at the upper end of the golf market. It follows our review of some quality clubs under the £400 mark. Fed up with hearing about the ‘credit crunch’?  Why not splash out on some new sticks! Here’s a selection of the premium irons that we have reviewed, well worth trying out:

Ping S57 irons, £90 per club

The lower launch angle makes them versatile for the better striker and despite being small, they are actually more forgiving than we expected:

Mizuno MP 52 irons, £85 per club

Another beautiful set of Mizuno irons. The small cavity will attract decent strikers who are put off by the uncompromising demands of blades:

Nike VR Split Cavity irons, £630

Over the ball they look like a blade but from the back you can see a cavity that helps forgiveness. Any decent ball striker will like the forged feel:
