After a tight finish to the inaugural Goodwill Trophy the Rest of the World came out on top against Europe and the USA by 6.5 to 5.5. The event came down to the final green where Australian Peter Senior defeated Welshman Bradley Dredge for the overall victory.
The trophy was played at the golfing metropolis that is Mission Hills in Shenzhen, China, and was seen by the organisers as an opportunity to promote the game of golf in the country.
The Rest of the World team took a one-point lead into the second day after the Monday foursomes. The pick of the singles matches included the two team captains with Colin Montgomerie defeating Retief Goosen on the final hole. Thongchai Jaidee beat Luke Donald 2 and 1 and South Korea’s KJ Choi won a close game against England’s Paul Casey.
In 2007, the Goodwill Trophy will be held at The Celtic Manor Resort and played on the newly completed Ryder Cup course.
