Seve Trophy

Seve Trophy: golf betting guide

GB&I will be looking for their seventh successive Seve Trophy victory when they take on a strong Continental Europe side at Saint-Nom-La-Breteche Golf Club in France.

The biennial contest - which gets underway on Thursday - has been dominated by GB&I in recent times, but Continental Europe look favourites on paper this time around.

A number of high-profile GB&I players, such as Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose and Graeme McDowell, have controversially opted to skip the event. As such, the Continental Europeans are 8/15 favourites with Ladbrokes.

Given the comparative strength of the European side, I'd find it difficult to stake any money on GB&I. Only two of their team (Paul Lawrie and Paul Casey) have played in more that one Seve Trophy, and the Continental European team is brimming with confidence, experience and talent.

Therefore, a market I'd be looking at with interest is Correct Score, with Continental Europe to win 16-12 and 15.5-12.5 both appealing at 11/1 with Ladbrokes.

In the Top GB&I Points Scorer Market, I like the look of Englishmen Paul Casey and Tommy Fleetwood.

Casey - at 5/1 with Ladbrokes - has returned to form this season, I'd expect him to play in every session and his experience will be invaluable.

Fleetwood (8/1 with Ladbrokes) is the form player on the GB&I team, having notched a top 10 at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship and a maiden European Tour victory at the Johnnie Walker Championship.

In the top Continental European Market, Nicolas Colsaerts looks a good bet at 5/1 with Ladbrokes. The Belgian Bomber has an exemplary matchplay record and he showed good form at the Italian Open two weeks ago.

Gregory Bourdy, at 14/1 with Ladbrokes, is a decent each way bet. Granted, his recent performances haven't been spectacular, but he won the Wales Open in September and he should be inspired by playing on home soil.
