Thomas Bjorn wins Nedbank Golf Challenge

Thomas Bjorn shot a final-round 65 to record a 20-under-par 72-hole total and win the Nedbank Golf Challenge by two shots from Sergio Garcia and Jamie Donaldson in Sun City.

Bjorn began the final round two shots behind overnight leader Donaldson, but surged home with a terrific back-nine display.

The Dane turned in three-under-par 33, but the real fireworks began on the inward nine.

He eagled the par-5 10th, added another at the 14th and birdied the 15th to complete a six-hole stretch in five-under-par. He would bogey the last, but that turned out to be inconsequential.

“This is right up there with the best days of my career,” said Bjorn.

“You never forget your first victory, and then my win against Tiger in Dubai was special, but winning here in the way that I did against a field of this quality is up there.

“I am very proud of the way I played today – it’s a very special day in my career.”

Last season’s Race to Dubai champion Henrik Stenson finished in fourth place, with burly Zimbabwean Brendon de Jonge alone in fifth.
