Tiger Woods has announced that his wife Elin gave birth to their second child yesterday, Charlie Axel Woods.

The world number one missed last week’s Buick Invitational and has refused to commit to a date when he will return to competition.

He recently reported making full swings in practice and admitted to feeling “great”. Close friend Mark O’Meara also advised that he’d recently played a few rounds with the 14-time Major winner, which has only fuelled speculation as to when he’ll return to action.

Woods announced on his website: “Elin and I am are thrilled to announce the birth of our son, Charlie Axel Woods.

“Both Charlie and Elin are doing great and we want to thank everyone for their sincere best wishes and kind thoughts.”

The 33-year-old stopped short of confirming when he’d compete again, although he has said that the birth of his new baby would take precedent over anything he did golf-wise.

Woods continued: “Sam is very excited to be a big sister and we feel truly blessed to have such a wonderful family.

“We look forward to introducing Charlie to you at an appropriate time, and again thanks from all of us for you kindness and support.”
