Wells Fargo Championship: golf betting guide

Golf Monthly tipster Tom Clarke has been checking out the markets to fins out who to back this week on the PGA Tour at the Wells Fargo Championship

Webb Simpson

The PGA Tour is in North Carolina this week for the Wells Fargo Championship at the Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte.

Rickie Fowler defends the title and a host of star names are on the start sheet.

Last season, Rickie Fowler took the title in a thrilling playoff with Rory McIlroy and D.A. Points. The young Californian played a sublime second to the 18th, (the first extra hole) to set up a birdie that neither his opponents could match.

A field which includes, McIlroy, Mickelson and Westwood means that other players' prices are going to be enhanced

Webb Simpson 16/1 with Ladbrokes. Coming off the back of his best finish of the year at the RBC Heritage where he was 2nd. Simpson finished 4th here last season and lives less than a mile from the course.

Bill Haas 25/1 with Ladbrokes. One of the PGA Tour's most consistent performers with 5 top 10 finishes already this season and also has an impressive scoring average at the course. A win is surely just round the corner for him.

Boo Weekley 50/1 with Ladbrokes. On a course that suits great ball strikers Boo certainly seems to be hitting it as well as anyone, his GIR stats on the PGA Tour are simply superb. Has missed only one cut all year and has 3 top 10 finishes, all things point to the each way market.

Nicolas Colsaerts 50/1 with Ladbrokes coming off the back of his Top 10 performance at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans he is someone who may enjoy the course that seems to play into the hands of great ball strikers and people winning for the first time on the PGA Tour.

Peter Tomasulo at 150/1 with Ladbrokes. An interesting pick at a very large price. Has played 7 times on the PGA Tour this season making 6 cuts. Finished T15th in New Orleans recently, but the main reason is for tipping him is that this will mark his last start via a medical extension in the graduate reshuffle category. So he is in need of a good finish to stay on Tour. Oh and another thing he leads the Tour in total driving and ranks second in GIR; also fourth in proximity to the hole and T22 in par-5 scoring average... Am I talking myself into or out of this? Either way he has to be considered for an each way bet

Wells Fargo Championship advised bets:

4pts each way on Webb Simpson at 16/1 with Ladbrokes 3pts each way on Bill Haas at 25/1 with Ladbrokes 2pts each way on Boo Weekley at 40/1 with Ladbrokes 2pts each way on Nicolas Colsaerts at 50/1 with Ladbrokes 1pt each way on Peter Tomasulo at 100/1 with Ladbrokes
