As the TP Tour‘s “Race to Valderrama” continued on Monday at Ealing Golf Club in West London, torrential rain from the previous evening and the morning of the event made course conditions rather tough.

Yet a toughened course could not stop England U-18 squad member Pavan Sagoo, who shot a round of 67, from becoming the first amateur to win a TP Tour event.

Among those that Sagoo beat included the host professional, former Walker Cup participant and European Senior Tour player Ricky Wilson, who shot a par round of 70. Wilson’s score was matched by Jack Harrison and England A squad member Harry Casey of Enfield Golf Club.

Recent TP winner Mike Bush shot a round of 68 to lead in the clubhouse, but was beaten by Sagoo.

Leaders from Ealing Golf Club:

The previous week’s action took place at the Liphook Golf Club in Hampshire, where a one-hole playoff was needed to decide the winner.

Toby Burden from Hayling Golf Club shot a two under par 68 which held the clubhouse lead for most of the day before Ryan Harrison shot one better with a 67.

However, Harrison was soon bested himself as Mark Laskey, from Brocket Hall in Hertfordshire, set a new standard for the day with a four-under-par 66.

In a day that saw a round robin of players take the top spot of the leaderboard, Laskey looked as though he himself would fall, as Jeremy Kavanagh was four under on the 18th hole.

Kavanagh found the green in two on the par five, but took three putts from the edge of the green, which resulted in a tie on 66.

The stage was then set for a one-hole playoff between Laskey and Kavanagh on Liphook’s 195-yard par-3 first hole. The second time around Laskey holed the winning putt from three feet for his first win on the TP Tour.

Leaders from Liphook Golf Club:

1. MARK LASKEY 66
2. JEREMY KAVANAGH 66
3. RYAN HARRISON 67
3. TOBY BURDEN 68

The TP Tour continues next week on October 8 at Northants Golf Club.
