Open 2007 - In association with RBS

Hole by Hole Guide - 7th

Carnoustie 7th

Thursday 5th July 2007

Name: Plantation
Par: 4
Championship Tee: 412 yards
Medal Tee: 394 yards

Colin Says: A good risk and reward hole, I expect around half the field to have a go at getting it past the bunkers on the right of the fairway. If they do they've got an easy approach. I'd advise a touch more caution: play short of the bunkers leaving 160 yards in. Get too aggressive and there's potential for a big number. This hole played fifth hardest in 1999.

Fergus Says: It may look innocuous but it shouldn't be underestimated. There's OOB tight down the left and well positioned bunkers on the right. The green is quite shallow so good distance control is required on your approach.

Paul Says: They've taken the trees out on the right side here to create more of a links look. More have been removed on the 16th and 17th. The thinking was that few of the top links courses have trees on them. It doesn't make a big impact on how the holes play.
