Key technology:

Designed to produce maximum distance, particularly with a driver, for mid to high clubhead speeds. Features a dual mantle a soft ionomer inner layer and a firm ionomer outer layer between the cover and the core. Both mantles are very thin, and are designed to work together to enhance ball speed and reduce spin off the tee.

Will suit: Players after premium distance and short-game spin at an affordable price point.

Verdict

GM verdict: For a ball that promises premium performance, the Hex Chrome+ is keenly priced. The distance control on offer on pitch shots is excellent, with plenty of spin. However, it's also very durable and compares favourably with some of the best balls on the market. The trajectory from the tee will suit a range of golfers, as it sits right between high and low-spinning premium offerings. But... the cover felt slightly firmer than previous premium Callaway designs. This had no noticeable effect on the amount of spin on offer, but it did give a slightly firmer feel on chip shots and when putting. PGA pro verdict: These balls are some of the best I've tested recently. They were long off the tee and the spin rate was lower than I'd expected, giving me a straighter ball flight. They also performed brilliantly from inside 50 yards that all-important distance. Control was excellent, especially on gentle lob shots and from the sand, where I was able to gauge both distance and spin much more consistently. They're beautiful to putt with, too. I was able to judge pace very easily, particularly on faster greens. Overall, a great product from Callaway.
