Golf Monthly's test team reviews the Dunlop DP1 driver.
The finish and quality is excellent, even though the Aeroskin crown design takes some getting used to. As an adjustable driver, it performs nicely, although I felt its strike and feel were a little below par. However, with it set on the closed position and teed high, its performance really improved for my swing. Matched up with the Grafalloy ProLaunch red shaft, this club has a lot going for it.

The adjustability is impressive given the price tag, and changing the head weights makes a clear difference to the ball flight. It’s also very easy to understand if you haven’t had an adjustable driver before. The shape of the head inspires confidence at address, and works together with the shaft to produce consistent results.

Although the Aeroskin technology on the crown is there to reduce drag, it’s also distracting and doesn’t look particularly classy. Distance on shots from the centre of the face is good, but there’s a noticeable drop in yardage on mishits. Although it can’t match more expensive drivers, it performs well given its affordable price tag.

Key technology
Six positions of adjustment include open, square and closed face positions. The head can be set in a draw or fade bias by switching 10g and 3g weights, and is more aerodynamic than previous models to reduce drag and boost distance. The lightweight carbon crown allows weight to be redistributed low in the head to help launch the ball on a higher flight.
