Tight Lies fairway wood
Golf Monthly Senior Staff Writer Paul O'Hagan tests the Adams Tight Lies fairway woop
GM verdict: While the Tight Lies name will hold plenty of nostalgia for many, there's also lots of modern technology built into this regeneration. What does remain is the shallow face, which gives you the confidence to take on shots from all sorts of lies. The main benefit of Adams Velocity Slot Technology is the impressive distance produced on mishits. This results in fantastic consistency and encourages a confident and committed swing. Those who struggle to get on with hybrid clubs could find these an excellent alternative. But... some will prefer a deeper face when using a fairway wood from the tee. Although the slot in the crown has clear performance benefits, it can be distracting on such a compact head. PGA pro verdict: This striking fairway wood sat beautifully at address. The shallow head design and Velocity Slot Technology gave me the impression that I could strike it well from many different lies, good or bad, and this proved correct. It was easy to use, gave consistent trajectory and fantastic yardage. The Tight Lies could almost become my go-to club if I needed a long fairway shot in a difficult situation. This is a good match for the excellent utility clubs on offer from Adams. Test team rating: Performance: 4.5/5 Visual appeal: 3.5/5 Innovation: 4/5 Value: 4/5 Overall: 4/5
Why you can trust Golf Monthly
Key technology:
Adams' Velocity Slot Technology incorporates new Cut-Thru slots in the crown and sole of the clubhead, just behind the face, to increase ball speeds at impact for added distance. The low-profile clubs also have a low centre of gravity to boost shot trajectory, while a Tri-Sole design should reduce turf interaction for improved performance from a variety of lies.
Will suit... players wanting a versatile fairway wood.
