The Golf Monthly team brings you its GolfBuddy PT4 review, revealing all you need to know about this golf GPS device

Product Overview

Overall rating:

GolfBuddy PT4

Pros:

  • The GolfBuddy flagship GPS model has gone from strength to strength over the years and the PT4 is undoubtedly the brand’s best offering yet. The largest screen on test allows a great deal of information to be presented without it being confusing. The overhead maps are very clear and give a good indication of the hole that lies ahead. GolfBuddy is one of the few brands that maps courses on foot to offer fantastic accuracy and added reassurance. Stat collection and scoring is impressive and easy to input.

Cons:

  • If you want detailed maps then you will obviously need a big device, but this is particularly large and heavy so it’s unlikely you will want to carry it in your pocket.

 Key technology: GolfBuddy PT4 review

A four-inch LCD screen offers touchscreen
control, allowing the use of overhead maps to find distances from anywhere on each hole. The PT4 is preloaded with over 37,000 courses around the world. A Pinch and Zoom hole view allows a closer look at hazards and landing areas, while distance arcs give clear distance reference points. The unit can be flipped in the bag mount for safe storage.

Verdict

If you play lots of different courses then there is no doubting that overhead maps will really help you, particularly when they are on such a big and clear screen as the GolfBuddy PT4. The GPS unit is well designed and the interface is easier to operate than you might think considering the amount of information. This makes it a great choice for those who want lots of information but are perhaps intimidated by the bigger units with lots of info. If stat collection and digital scoring aren’t your thing they can easily be ignored.
