Titleist 714 AP2 irons review
Golf Monthly Senior Staff Writer Paul O'Hagan reviews the Titleist 714 AP2 irons in his equipment test
Golf Monthly verdict:Titleist has significantly refined the visuals of the AP2, with the high-chrome shelf appeal complemented by a neat satin address look. The top edge is spot on too - thin enough to look workable, yet wide enough and rounded not to appear too intimidating. The AP2 performs impressively, with a soft feel off the face and excellent forgiveness. Perhaps half a club longer than we're used to as well.But... it's difficult to find anything negative to say about Titleist's most popular iron. However, ?if it's maximum forgiveness ?you're after, you'll find more in ?the AP1 model, while the CB ?and MB irons offer a greater degree of workability.PGA pro verdict:This is one of the finest sets of irons that you're likely to find. ?We liked everything about them. The quality of the finish, the design, soft feel and superb performance are all exceptional. All the clubs look beautifully appealing at address, and the high performance was consistent through the entire set. The softer feel at impact was a particular plus point, and the long irons proved to be exceptionally easy to launch. I would highly recommend having these irons fitted to get the most out of the impressive design.Test team ranking:Performance: 5/5Visual appeal: 5/5Innovation: 4/5Value: 4.5/5Overall: 4.5/5
Why you can trust Golf Monthly
Tested: Titleist 714 AP2 irons review
Key technology:
The multi-material forged heads are precision engineered to produce the optimum flight through the set, as well as offering added forgiveness. Centre of gravity positions vary to create a higher launch in the long irons, and a flatter, more penetrating ball flight in the short clubs. Tungsten weighting improves the consistency on offer, without any loss in feel.
Will suit: Players seeking a compact look and forgiveness.
