Callaway Apex irons review
Golf Monthly Senior Staff Writer Paul O'Hagan reviews the Callawy Apex irons in his eqipment test
GM verdictThis set of irons offers the rare combination of an attractive look at address, but with plenty of technology in the head. The high and long ball flight produced through the set was very similar to a game-improvement set. However, the impact sound and feel on offer was closer to a compact forged design. Although the feel is soft, you still get enough feedback about where the ball made contact with the face. This is extremely helpful for those looking to improve the quality of their striking and overall iron play.But... the understated look and subtle colour scheme lacks the visual pop of previous Callaway iron offerings.PGA pro verdict:These irons performed beautifully from the very first strike. They offered impressive feel and I was able to shape all my shots with comparative ease. The strike felt solid and consistent. They look great behind the ball at address, too, being compact but not intimidating, and this was the case through the entire set. One of the striking features is the soft feel at impact - something that can be lacking in some forged irons when it comes to off-centre hits. Excellent all-round performance.Test team rating:Performance: 4/5Visual appeal: 4/5Innovation: 4/5Value: 4/5Overall: 4/5

Callaway Apex irons review:
Key technology:
The Apex irons are designed to offer forgiveness, but with the feel benefits of a forged iron, a combination aimed at a range of golfers. A thin steel face insert, first seen in the X Hot fairway woods, should generate an extra one to two miles per hour in ball speed to help players hit it further, while a forged carbon steel body should improve the feel on offer.
Will suit: Players after feedback from a forgiving design.
