i-Ezone irons
Golf Monthly Senior Staff Writer Paul O'Hagan tests the Yonex i-Ezone irons
GM verdict: Yonex’s original Ezone irons, which fitted into the mid-range price bracket, were solid performers. However, it’s in the top price category that the brand really excels. The i-Ezone irons are the perfect example of what Yonex engineers can do when allowed to incorporate a range of high-tech (and expensive) materials into an iron. Although the head is on the compact side, the i-Ezone is very forgiving, and also long through the set. We found that each club was around five yards longer than most other models we’ve tested recently, without any loss of control. Combined with the new Yonex shaft, the feel and feedback are also fantastic. But... an eight-iron set will cost more than £1,000, which is a serious investment, even for a top-quality set. Only available with graphite shafts. PGA pro verdict: This is a brilliantly balanced product, managing to combine stylish looks with excellent forgiveness. Impressively, the added forgiveness doesn’t come at the expense of distance. The Yonex shaft delivers a fantastic feel at impact, while the white finish and white grip complete a top-quality overall look. An impressive premium performer. Test team rating: Performance: 5/5 Visual appeal: 4.5/5 Innovation: 4.5/5 Value: 4/5 Overall: 4/5
Why you can trust Golf Monthly
Key technology:
A new Half Cup Face Construction is designed to expand the hitting area, which should increase ball speeds through the set for more distance, as well as providing forgiveness on off-centre hits. Tungsten in the sole of the club enhances the forgiveness and control on offer, while a graphite plate behind the face improves ball flight and feel.
Will suit: players after a forgiving set of irons with great feel and shelf appeal.
