We highlight some of the best pubs in Troon that are ideal for a quick pint while soaking up the atmosphere of the Open Championship at Royal Troon

After a long day following the world’s best players on the links what better way to relax and recover in one of the local watering holes and soak up the atmosphere in the host town. Royal Troon Golf Club, host of the 2016 Open Championship, is a mere 15 minute walk from the centre of Troon that, for a small town, has a decent selection of pubs, bars and restaurants to sample. Nearby Prestwick is also a good venue for a night out while attending the Open but here are what we think are the best pubs in Troon…

Piersland hotel

Situated opposite the entrance to the Royal Troon Golf Club, the Piersland hotel is the ideal place to relax and enjoy a local ale or whiskey, maybe even a buffet lunch or an evening meal. There’s also a coffee bar and a comprehensive wine list. Generally it provides a quiet atmosphere, ideal if you want to unwind and restore your energy before heading home.

MacIntyres

For a more traditional local British pub that still welcomes visitors with open arms, MacIntyres in the centre of Troon is a good spot. It often has live music and shows live sport on a big screen, could be the perfect setting to watch the golf over a pint or two. There’s also a decent selection of whiskeys and a beer garden should the sun be shining.

South Beach hotel

south-beach-2

Situated between Royal Troon and the town Centre on South Beach road, South Beach hotel is a popular place for golfing parties to stay and drink in the evening and chat above the game they love.

The walls are covered in golfing memorabilia and there’s a pool table for entertainment as well as a wide selection of local whiskeys.

Fullartons

Although being a family restaurant serving food all day, seven days a week, Fullartons is located in the centre of Troon and also has a plentifully-stocked bar to tipple the taste buds. A bottle of Presecco will set you back just £15 while on a Thursday, you can get two burgers for just £10.

Lido

More of an upmarket café come bistro establishment, Lido serves excellent food from breakfast to dinner but you can also pop in for a drink. If you’re after a quieter night out, this could be the perfect venue, but it may cost you a few more pounds compared with other places in the town.
