Day 3 of #TheOpenRoadtrip with Mercedes-Benz, and Jeremy Ellwood and reader Sean Wheatley swap steering wheels for golf clubs in the Hillside challenge...

Day 3: Fri 18th July
After testing their driving skills on the track in their Mercedes-Benz GLAs at Brooklands on day 1 and Silverstone on day 2, it was time for #TheOpenRoadtrip teams to get down to the kind of driving with which they were more familiar on day 3.

After trekking up the M6 to Southport from the beautiful Fawsley Hall Hotel in Northamptonshire, it was finally time to tee it up and see how the teams from the UK, Spain, Italy, Germany and Australia would fare on the renowned Golf Monthly Top 100 links at Hillside right next door to Royal Birkdale.

With the rough pretty thick and a testing breeze to contend with early on, many found it tough going, and no-one came close to matching their handicaps. Team UK kept fighting to the end to amass a combined 51 points, but this was only good enough for 3rd on the podium behind our Mediterranean friends from Spain and Italy who scored 58 and 53 respectively.

The remaining challenges include a skills test on the HSBC Golf Zone at Hoylake, and tipping up three players for the weekend, with maximum points going to those whose three players finish highest.
