A look at the players who have qualified to play at the 2015 Open Championship at St Andrews

Open 2015 players: Ireland

Ireland is of course home to the number one current golfer in the world, Rory McIlroy. He was the winner of last year’s Open Championship and also had a top 5 finish in 2010 earning himself 3rd place. Last year as well as the Open he won the PGA Championship which he’d also won in 2012.

After a very confident season this year with a 4th place in the Masters and a 9th place tie in the US Open, McIlroy was looking set to take the Open this coming week by storm. However due to a recent football injury he has pulled out of the Open this year.

It’s terrible news to hear that we won’t be able to see the world number one play in the biggest golfing event of the year at the home of Golf itself, however it’s likely that the same won’t go for the majority of his competition.

One of the other Irish star players (as there are many) is Padraig Harrington who also looks set to have a great Open competition. As a winner of the Open in  2007 and 2008 he is always someone to look out for.
