Nice resident Clement Sordet led the Nice tributes at The Open, wearing a black ribbon and writing "Pray For Nice" on the peak of hit hat.
The Frenchman was honouring over 80 victims who were killed when a truck smashed into a crowd in the French resort as they watched a Bastille Day fireworks display on Thursday night.
Sordet said at the end of his round: "My thoughts are with the families and the victims. I woke up at 4am and tried to find out what had been going on, mainly on the radio. The attack happened less than 500m from where I live. My girlfriend's family come from there."
Ernie Els was another player to pay tribute at The Open, with a black ribbon pinned to the back of his hat, while the R&A have set the French tricolour to fly at half-mast on the grandstand beside the 18th green, and made black armbands available for the players.
On social media there were further tributes from the players as they awoke to the news this morning, including this tweet from Ross Fisher.
