12 players have guaranteed their places at the 2014 Open Championship at Royal Liverpool after the conclusion of the 4 Final Qualifying tournaments on Sunday June 29.
288 players were seen qualifying for one of the 12 spots available at the 143rd Open Championship, which will be played from 17-20 July.
Final Qualifying was spread amongst four courses, namely Sunningdale, Gailes Links, Woburn and Hillside.
Only two players managed to break par at Sunningdale, where Matthew Southgate, Chris Rodgers and Byeong-Hun An all qualified.
England’s Southgate closed the Final Qualifying at Sunnigdale with a 64 for a four-under-par 134. An finished with a total of 135.
Gailes Link saw three Scottish golfers secure places at the Open with Marc Warren, Jamie McLeary and Paul McKechnie
Two-time European Tour winner Warren said, “I was really confident coming in here as it’s a course I play a lot.
“It means a lot to get back into the Open. Last year was my first taste of it. But I was frustrated as I was close to making the cut and you want another shot at it.”
Also qualifying were Ireland’s Paul Dunne, England’s Oliver Fisher and Rhys Enoch who were competing at Woburn.
Amateur Paul Dunne managed to retain his composure despite almost missing his tee time.
“I misjudged the time it would take me to get from the clubhouse out to the 10th tee but fortunately I managed to hit my opening tee shot straight down the middle.”
Dunne claimed a three shot victory ahead of Oliver Fisher.
The final three golfers qualifying for a chance to win the Claret Jug were John Singleton, Christopher Hanson and Oscar Floren, who all qualified at Hillside.
The three qualified after a dramatic four man play off which saw amateur Nick Marsh being unable to match par at the second extra hole after finding a bunker off the tee.
Commenting on qualifying Singleton said, “It will be amazing to play in the Open, and I expect I’ll have a lot of support from my friends and family.”
