Tiger Woods has missed the cut at the 2015 USPGA Championship - the first time the former world number one has missed the cut at three consecutive major championships

Tiger Woods has missed three major cuts in a row for the first time in his career. Scores of two over par and lower qualified for the last two rounds of the 2015 USPGA Championship at Whistling Straits, but former world number one Woods shot 75-73, four over par for 36 holes, to miss the cut by two.

Having finished an impressive tied-17th in the Masters in April, Woods has now missed the cut in the U.S. Open, The Open and PGA Championship in the same year for the first time, and that result at Augusta remains his best of the 2015 PGA Tour season. Woods is not scheduled to play in the Wyndham Championship next week, which would be his last chance to qualify for the season-ending FedEx Cup Playoffs, so without a late change of schedule, Woods' 2015 PGA Tour season is effectively over already, in mid-August.

“I hit it good enough to be where I needed to be, but I putted awful,” said Woods, 39, after his round. “I finally figured something out today on the putting green, but the damage had already been done. I finally rolled the ball coming in, but unfortunately it was a too little, too late.

My putting set-up, my lines were off. So I got my lines organised, and all of a sudden I was seeing my line again. Not only that but I felt I could roll the ball on my correct pace.

I haven't played that much the last couple years, and now I'm finally able to start playing. Unfortunately, I'm missing out on the Playoffs, but I still have a lot of golf left. We have got some other tournaments I'm going playing in, plus overseas events. So there's plenty of golf left to be played for the rest of the year.

“I came back at Augusta and had my short game back. Then I started getting my ball striking in order, but lost my putting. I just need to do both at the same time and I just haven't done that. I haven't put together ball striking and putting. It's been one or the other.

“My confidence is growing quickly, that's the fun part. I'm hitting shots that I haven't been able to hit in years and that's nice. I just need to get more consistent in tournament golf and the only way you can do that is by playing.”
