Whistling Straits hole by hole guide: hole 13 - Cliff Hanger / 404 yards / Par 4
This straight forward par 4 provides a good birdie chance, but cannot be taken too lightly with the green's close proximity to the bluffs. A good drive that avoids the right of the fairway is ideal as dunes to the right with thick rough will almost guarantee a forced lay up. If your approach shot finds the correct part of this green you will be left with a good chance at making your birdie.
Justin Leonard sent a terrific birdie putt on 13 in for birdie as he approached the final five holes at the 2004 USPGA Championship. The putt ensured he had a two-shot lead, but he would ultimately surrender his slender advantage as Vijay Singh defeated him and Chris DiMarco in a play-off. He bogeyed three of his final five holes to undo the good work he'd done on 13 and keep his major wait going. He had previously come close in 2002, finishing T4, and at Winged Foot in 1997, when he finished second and five shots off Davis Love III.
