Whistling Straits hole by hole guide: hole 3 - O'Man / 181 yards / Par 3
The left to right sloping nature of this green means that a shot aimed at the right half of this green could still have a chance of getting close regardless of pin position. The miss on the green is to the right, but don't expect an easy up and down because the green slopes away from you. Lake Michigan will we happily waiting for any balls swaying left on the wind.
Of the top 3 at the 2010 USPGA Championship, including ties, only Rory McIlroy made a birdie on this par 3 hole. Winner Martin Kaymer, Bubba Watson and Zach Johnson all made pars throughout their respective four rounds. However, McIlroy birdied the hole in his third round as he began to make a concerted move for the title.
Similarly, 2004 USPGA winner Vijay Singh couldn't make any birdies on this hole, with second placed Chris DiMarco actually bogeying the hole during his third round. Ernie Els birdied O'Man twice, but it wasn't enough to help him to victory at Whistling Straits. Phil Mickelson made a double bogey on this hole at the same tournament. Let that serve as a warning!
