A guide to hole 5 at Whistling Straits, called Snake.

Whistling Straits hole by hole guide: hole 5 -  Snake / 598 yards / Par 5

This long hole will require a mixture of power and accuracy and power off the tee. With water all the way up the right side off the tee, the brave line off the tee would be to hug the right side to set up a shorter approach to the green. If you play this as a three-shotter, then a well struck mid-iron will be ideal for a lay up that will only leave a wedge into this narrow green. Good luck to those brave enough to take this monster on in two with trouble short and left.

Phil Mickelson declared the final round of the USPGA Championship in 2010 as a fun day. Not many people of Lefty's calibre would say that after finished T12, but not everybody eagles the par 5 fifth. Mickelson moved to -2 with his excellent play on Snake and even birdied three consecutive holes on the back nine. However, he bogeyed 18 on the way to falling five shots short of Martin Kaymer and Bubba Watson's target of 277.
