International Heidi reaches quarter-finals of English girls' championship

Heidi, who won the 2007 English girls’ U15 title, hit fine form in both her matches. She was round in level par in her first round match and was two-under when she defeated Durham girls’ champion Rebecca McGinley on the 14th.

She now plays her friend  and number two seed Abbey Gittings from Walmley, Warwickshire. Next week Heidi will be on duty for England in the Girls’ International Matches at Panmure, Scotland.

Meanwhile, Kent’s Sian Evans (Faversham) knocked out top seed Jessica Wilcox of Blankney, Lincolnshire, with a 2/1 win in the second round.

“We both played really well,” said Sian who made a crucial breakthrough in the tight match with birdies on the 14th and 15th. They took her to 2up and although she lost the 16th she closed out the match with an impressive par on the 17th – where she got up and down from 60 yards.

Cheshire’s Charlotte Wild (Mere) continued her good season by beating girl international Holly Clyburn 3/2 in the second round.

Already this season Charlotte has retained the Cheshire girls’ championship, won the Northern Foursomes and been third in the Irish strokeplay championship.

The other quarter finalists are Rachael Goodall (Heswall),Nikki Dunn (Harrogate), Sarah Tyson (Redlibbets) and Giorgina Brown (Mere) who won both her matches on the 19th.

Play in the second flight matches was suspended when torrential rain flooded the greens. The players will return at 7.30am to complete their matches.
