Amateur golf's Matchplay Championship 2009/2010 will feature a Grand Final at the five-star Marriott Taba Heights complex in Egypt
The Matchplay Championship has bucked the economic recession by agreeing a deal with headline sponsors Golf Monthly and Direct Golf UK for the 2009/10 competition. Last year’s sponsors Rewards4golf will also continue to support Europe’s largest amateur golf tournament.
Now entering its sixth anniversary, the Matchplay Championship always promises to be both highly popular and hotly contested. For an entrance fee of just £20, contestants are provided with the opportunity to win the trip of a lifetime.
This year, the 32 lucky finalists will be flown out to stay and play at the five-star Marriott Taba Heights complex in Egypt. With the Grand Final due to be broadcast on Sky Sports, club golfers have the opportunity to showcase their talents to the world.
The nature of the championship is such that golfers of all abilities have the opportunity to become champions. Last year’s men’s pairs event saw a pairing from Cheshire with a combined age of just 37 conquer the field; whilst the victors of the mixed pairs competition came via a plus two and 15 handicap duo from Northern Ireland.
