Duke of York Young Champions Trophy champion: Harry Casey

Harry Casey won the Duke of York Young Champions Trophy when he defeated Harang Lee, the European Young Masters Girls' champion, at a first extra hole at Royal Liverpool Golf Club, Hoylake.

Casey had arrived on the 72nd hole with a two-shot lead, but his tee shot found trouble and he then missed a two-fotter for the win, whilst Lee made a birdie.

It was strange," said Casey after his Duke of York win, having gone back to 17. "It was harder to have to beat a girl than a boy."

Meanwhile, Haydn Porteous of South Africa finished third, with Antonia Scherer of Germany back in fourth.

The first day saw 35 mph gusts of wind impact the scoring with Lisa Maguire being one of a number of high-profile players suffering in the tough conditions.

"It was when I hit my second shot to the second well wide of the green that everything started to go wrong," said Maguire, who knocked her next shot into a greenside bunker and then took two to escape en route to an eight.

"The players have been incredible," said The Duke of York, who was thrilled with his 10th Anniversary event. "Considering what they had been through with the wind, they mostly all kept their lovely tempos."
