Junior golfers compete in Home Internationals Trophy

Millfield: Winners of the Independent Schools Golf Association's Home Internationals Trophy

Junior golfers recently took part in a two-day scratch strokeplay event in the Independent Schools Golf Association’s (ISGA) Home Internationals Trophy.

It’s the ISGA’s most prestigious competition of the year, which involves a culmination of the best finishing schools from England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales, competing against one another.

Last year the junior golfers got the chance to play Royal County Down and Royal Portrush, an event hosted by Campbell College.

The 2009 event on March 9-10 was hosted by Loretto School – a school that prides itself on taking the initiative in terms of junior golf.

On the first day England’s Ben Taylor and Scotland’s Philip Buckendorf faired the best in blustery conditions to post scores of 74 at the Tom Doak-designed Renaissance Club situated between Muirfield and Archerfield links on the Duke of Hamilton’s land.

Six players from each school represented their country and the best four scores counted towards the team total.

The Donald Steel-designed Craigielaw hosted the second day where Alex Quin of England carded the best individual score of 72 to help Millfield (England) to a narrow victory, despite testing weather conditions once again.
