TopGolf festival helps Essex youngsters

Youngsters experience the TopGolf offering

Over 80 youngsters from four Essex schools attended a festival of golf at the TopGolf centre in Chigwell on Friday, May 28.

The children, aged from six to 11, attended the festival as part of a government-run scheme called TriGolf, which was funded by the School Sports Partnership. The children learned the basic elements of golf, such as putting and chipping with Velcro balls and targets.

The festival offered a unique opportunity for the youngsters to practice with real irons and woods, and an inter-school competition commenced soon after, where each student was given 20 balls.

Buckhurst Hill Community Primary School finished in first place, and P.E coordinator Jo Hodkinson said: "Working with TopGolf has been second to none - all the staff are so professional and helpful, and it is great for the children to learn a new sport."

11-year-old Connie Thomas from Hereward Primary School, Loughton, scored the most points of the day, and she commented: "I am really excited to win the tournament. I am definitely going to keep it up."

The nationwide School Sports Partnership is an education and training package which increases the opportunities for youngsters to participate in P.E and school sport.

The schools who took part were Buckhurst Hill, Hereward Primary, St John Fisher and Whitebridge Junior.
