Following a £2 million re-design, the new Kernow Course at St. Mellion International Resort is now complete, and certainly merits a place in the upper tier of European 36-hole golf resorts.

In 2008, golf course architect Alan Leather was briefed to retain the best of the old course in creating a new course, which kept up to date with the advancement of golfing technology.

The new course includes nine brand new holes and nine of the best holes from the old course, ensuring that the par-70 Kernow Course will become a delightful complement to Jack Nicklaus's Signature Course.

The impressive Kernow Course provides golfers with a mixture of difficulty and enjoyment, from unusual approaches to greens over traditional Cornish hedges to the picturesque par-3 14th.

St Mellion's golf operations manager, David Moon, said: "It has certainly undergone some spectacular changes from the Old Course.

"People hit the ball further nowadays, so our new golf course is longer and a little tighter, and there are some unique and memorable hazards to overcome - however it is still a fair and extremely enjoyable course for golfers of all standards."

With the announcement that the European Tour will return to St Mellion in 2011, there is a great opportunity for the resort to gain many more admirers.

"Whether you come here for business, golf, to celebrate or simply to relax and explore Cornwall, I believe that the comprehensive level and quality of facilities here are unrivalled," said Stephen Towers, St Mellion's Resort Director.
