Development work at Dunston Hall enhances playing experience

The improvement programme has included the replacement and upgrading of the greens and the re-engineering of the irrigation system.

The new greens that have been installed create a better playing experience for all golfers, as they offer a truer putting surface with a greater feel and roll, whilst giving a better hold to the golf ball than in the past. As part of the clubs long-term plan and continuing improvements to the golf course, the re-engineering of the irrigation system will ensure that the course remains in excellent condition throughout the year.

Peter Briggs, Golf Operations Manager at Dunston Hall said: “Everyone at the club is delighted with the outcome of the development work that has taken place, which has not only made an immediate difference to the condition of the course but will have a significant positive impact on our long-term plans. The advantages of being able to offer golf all year round are obvious, while the new greens make the course an even more exciting proposition than in the past.”

Indeed, the new putting surfaces have been well received by a couple of experienced golfers and regular users of the course.

“The new greens are already in superb condition and will only get better over time. They are very receptive and will certainly help to improve my game and the challenges I face on tour. The course was always a good test before the recent development work, what with the lakes and strategically placed bunkers, but this upgrade of the greens certainly makes it even more challenging,” said Ladies European Tour player Caroline Grady, who represents Dunston Hall in addition to teaching and coaching at the course.

“They are magnificent playing surfaces and it is fantastic to see the greens in such great condition. I have no doubt that anyone who has the opportunity to play here, be it the members and all the corporate guests we accommodate, will enjoy the experience that has been enhanced as a result of the recent developments,” said Robert Waugh, former European Tour professional and now a coach at Dunston Hall.

The Dunston course makes the most of its superb location and is a great challenge for players of all standards. Against the backdrop of the magnificent hotel mansion, the superbly architected course takes in the estate's natural features. The undulating fairways stretch through the wooded parkland, while lakes and strategically placed bunkers are a feature on many holes.
