New General Manager and Director of Golf to further enhance Monte Rei's glowing reputation

Between them, Salvador Lucena and Iain McInally, have a wealth of experience within the hospitality and golf industries that will ensure Monte Rei continues to deliver unsurpassed levels of service and quality both on and off the golf course; creating a Golf and Country Club unrivalled in the region and unlike anything seen before on the Iberian Peninsula.

Salvador Lucena has over 16 years of international experience in the hospitality industry. Prior to joining Monte Rei back in February, Salvador specialised in operations and product development and has held senior management positions in 5 star properties, including The Cliff Bay (Madeira), Sheraton Mencey (Canary Islands) and The Ritz Four Seasons (Lisbon). During his career, Salvador has worked in countries across Europe such as Russia, Spain, Belize, England and Portugal.

Salvador said: “The Monte Rei project really impresses me with its vision and commitment to building and maintaining a superior golf experience, both on and off the course. I am extremely excited about the challenges we face given that the resort has already been incredibly well received since opening last year; our task is to ensure we maintain and build on the reputation Monte Rei already has.”

Iain McInally joined Monte Rei earlier in the year from Quinta do Lago in the Algarve where he was General Manager. Prior to this, Iain was the Director of Golf at the “home of golf” St Andrews, Royal Westmoreland (Barbados) and Marriott Hanbury Manor (Hertfordshire). His career in golf began over 20 years ago at Worplesdon Golf Club in Surrey, before he moved to the highly acclaimed Wisley Golf Club shortly after winning the prestigious 'PGA Trainee of the Year award' in 1991.

Ian said: “I am absolutely delighted to be part of the set-up here at Monte Rei, as there is no doubt that this is a spectacular location to play golf and a visit here offers a taste of the real Portugal. It’s a magnificent course and the feedback it has received from golfers and the media alike is certainly encouraging, as the resort develops it will undoubtedly fulfil its potential as being one of the finest golf destinations in the world.”

Monte Rei’s first golf course opened last year and has already been hailed in the golf press as a golfing masterpiece unrivalled in the region. The Jack Nicklaus Signature design meanders through gently rolling hills and valleys and is surrounded by over 400 hectares of beautiful Algarve countryside, with wonderful views of the Atlantic Ocean to the south and a back drop of the dramatic Serra do Caldeirao mountains to the north.

In addition to the two superlative golf courses, facilities will ultimately include a tennis complex, spa and equestrian centre, and a separate, stunning, ocean side Beach Club with its own gym, tennis courts and sun-drenched swimming pool. The Monte Rei experience captivates the natural charm and character of the picturesque East Algarve region and is destined to become one of the world’s leading golf course resorts - all this just thirty minutes east of Faro and one hour west from Seville near the ancient fishing town of Tavira.
