Padraig Harrington has thrown his weight behind ClubstoHire.com, the scheme that offers travellers huge savings on airline golf-bag charges launched last year by fellow Irish golfer Paul McGinley.

Harrington has encouraged his manufacturers, Wilson, to join the growing list of top companies whose clubs are featured in the scheme.

Wilson Golf has joined TaylorMade, Callaway and MD Golf, in the ClubstoHire.com 'stable' - ensuring customers receive the latest top-of-the-range clubs when hiring.

The service has proved enormously popular in Dublin, Malaga and Faro airports - and will soon be seen at Edinburgh.

Three-time Major winner, Harrington, said: "I must admit when Paul first told be about the service I thought 'it's so simple - why hasn't it been done before?' Many of my friends took advantage of the service after I mentioned it and said they would use it on every possible occasion.

With budget airlines charging up to £80 return for club transit, ClubstoHire.com offers a considerable saving and affords the opportunity to rent a set of the latest clubs, from a variety of major manufacturers, from €35 per week.

All clubs are offered - left or right-handed, ladies and men's - and hire is available from just one day to a full four weeks. All customers need to do is order online ahead of travel and pick up the hire set at the destination airport.

Since the service's launch last year, ClubstoHire.com customers have enjoyed a combined saving of more than a quarter of a million pounds.

And with several more European golf destination hubs scheduled to open by the end of the year, golfers and ClubstoHire.com look set to make excess baggage charges a thing of the past.
